Bey Day: The Evolution of Beyonce

Nine...Four...Eight...One...B-Day!

Yes, it is that wonderful day of the year where BeyHive members from near and far will celebrate the musical powerhouse herself...Beyoncé!

Throughout the years Bey has given us hit after hit, anthem after anthem and has made girl power on ongoing trend in her music. Since her breakout single Crazy in Love, we have seen have seen her grown as an artist and more importantly, as a woman.

Curated by my good sis Jasmine (twitter: @j_chole), check out  The Evolution of Beyoncé below!

1.  Crazy in Love, Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z (2003)

Baby Bey came out swinging with this one! Making her debut as a solo artist, Beyoncé made her mark with Crazy in Love. She had no shame making her love known like most of us do at a young age, no matter how CRAZY we may look in doing so! This song established her as a solo artist and helped make Bey even more of a household name. Go Baby Bey!

2. Me, Myself and I, Beyoncé (2003)

Every woman has a moment when she realizes all she needs is herself and well, this song is that moment! When you love yourself, you have no desire to take no mess from anyone who doesn't love you just as much. Beyonce reminds us and herself that you will never go wrong betting on yourself, a defining moment in maturing and becoming a woman. You gotta be your own best friend!

3. Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix), Beyoncé (2006)

All my ladies report to the dance floor! Yes, when you heard that and heard this beat drop, you knew what time it was and 11 years later nothing has changed. Bey blessed us with a timeless anthem with Get Me Bodied. Whether playing while getting ready with your girls for a fun night out, at a live party dancing in a circle or cleaning around the house (guilty) it is bound to keep you moving!

4. Upgrade U, Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z (2006)

Sometimes you have to let your man know exactly what you're capable of and on this track Bey definitely talked her ish! Upgrade U is up there for me as one of my favorite Beyoncé tracks and anthems. She let Jay know she got it too and then some and looked fly in the process. You know what they say, beside every good man is a woman calling the shots!

5. If I Were A Boy, Beyoncé (2008)

One of her biggest ballads to date, this one right here speaks to women who want to get inside the head of their man. Sometimes we sit back and ask just...why?! Society has told us that women cannot do the things that men, even when it comes down to love and relationships. This song puts us in their shoes, in hopes to give men a new perspective on what we go through as women in relationships. Thanks Bey!

6. Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), Beyoncé (2008)

Beyoncé is the only woman who can make an anthem about a man putting a ring on it while sitting pretty with a ring on her finger! Its all good though! Single Ladies is THE anthem and well, she knew. Whether married, single or "its complicated," when this one drops you can expect to see every woman's hand in the air and probably waving in the face of the man in closest range to her!  Almost 10 years later this song still rings off and women everywhere let these men know if you liked it, you should've wifed it!

7. Run the World (Girls), Beyoncé

Who run the world?! It truly goes without saying because, I mean...c'mon. Girls run the world! We make the world go round and on this anthem Bey made it known! It was no surprise when this song became the official girl power anthem around the world. While many people had their opinions on the girl power track, the message and the video, that did not stop women around the world for loving the song and Beyoncé for letting everyone know what we already did!

8. ***Flawless, Beyoncé ft. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, (2013)

Sometimes, you have to talk your **ish! Beyoncé has always been know as kind, sweet and very humble despite things that have been thrown at her. I personally believe that rumors about her not carrying her first born set her off and well, I don't blame her! The woman works hard and even if you are not a fan, props must be given where its due. Flawless not only gives her the chance to brag on herself, but a chance for women to brag on themselves as well! We are flawless, and if you didn't know it before this song dropped you certainly did after!

9. Formation, Beyoncé (2016)

Black, bold and beautiful! Formation is all that and more! The song and the video made so many statements when it dropped. From the lyrics embracing our blackness, to visuals highlighting the beauty of our culture and a strong message of "stop shooting us," formation is truly a Black girl anthem, and rightfully so! The song and video were both heavily criticized, however those who understood knew the importance of the song and the impact it will forever have on black woman. Slay!

10. Sorry, Beyoncé (2016)

I ain't sorry! Three words you hear very often when a woman is fed up and ready to take her power back! Sorry immediately became THAT song for women to let these men know I'm not having it, here's what I am going to do and I am not sorry one bit! Yes! Sometimes you have to let em know, I AIN'T SORRY!

Beyoncé has given us 14 years of hits and anthems and I'm certain she is no where near finished! From her first album to her most recent, we have watched her grow and share different sides of herself through her music. She has given us dance hits, ballads and girl power tracks - songs for every mood! Check out the full Beyoncé B-Day playlist below:

Self Care Sunday: Staying Positive No Matter What

via GIPHY Positivity. The practice of being or the tendency to be positive or optimistic in attitude. In other words, the power of not allowing life's BS to get you down and keep you there. Let's face it, every day is not filled with rainbows and butterflies. Often times, it can feel like a dump truck came and dropped all of its...crap all over you and left you to deal with the mess. That mess can weigh you down, attract more mess, and before you know it you're buried in...crap, with no idea of how to get out of it or how it got there in the first place. via GIPHY So, how do you navigate through life without letting the bad bring you down and keep you in a funk? via GIPHY I have found many ways to not allow the bad in life over rule the good. These small practices help me stay positive, happy and optimistic even though the hardest situations. Check them out! Resolve Like a Boss: The Spiritual Approach to Handling Conflict

Conflicts. Disagreements. Disputes. Call them what you want, difficult situations between individuals happen. Whether it be from miscommunication or lack of, passing judgement, unintentional actions that hurt someone or one feeling as if they are simply just not being heard, disagreements occur but they don't always have to be the end of connections and relationships between the people involved.  Conflicts arise for many reasons, but when resolved they can lead to breakthroughs, growth and even stronger bonds when two people are willing to hear one another out and come to a common ground. Getting to that point, however, is the challenge. It's easy to argue, go head to head and even hold a grudge against people we are in dispute with. It is not easy to open up, hear our opponent out and come to a compromise to satisfy both parties involved. I personally have found it easiest to do this when I approach the situation calmly and early on before it has time to fester. Let me explain...

I'm Glad I Didn't Give Up On Myself

I'm glad I didn't give up on myself. On July 28, 2017 I took a leap of faith and wrote my first blog post, Vital For Survival. I was really inspired by the movie Girls Trip, the message I took from the movie and seeing numerous women bond and laugh together while watching such a groundbreaking film. While I was inspired, I was also terrified. I was so scared to share my thoughts with other people that I almost did not push the Publish link. I actually clicked “Publish” by mistake and had a 5 minute panic attack (typical me). I was so nervous as to what people would say about something that I created – my words, my thoughts, my opinions. The thought still gives me the worst anxiety when I think about it. It is a fear that I push through week after week because I needed a place where I could be myself, share my thoughts and in turn inspire others to share with me and others as we grow and try our absolute best to navigate through this thing called life and try to be better...
